I am going to buy a guild cape very soon (within the next half hour probably) and i have seen a few capes with different cape layouts (spme like square cut, some look like they have been ripped at the bottom etc ) and i was wondering how do you change this?

You do that at the emblemer when u buy your cloak. Hit the scroll buttons to see the different designs/patterns. You should know that if you and another player in your guild are on-line, then you will need to make them relog when u have bought it (before u yourself relog), or else it might be permanently stuck with another look. A bug, but fortunately a solution.

Under the display of what the cape is going to look like, there should be 4 buttons thats say pattern over them, and it should look like this:
